The Mental Benefits of Weight Training
A student at California University of Pennsylvania, Conor Errey is studying wellness and fitness. Enrolled as an online student, he is able to maintain a flexible schedule and enjoys weight training in his free time. Conor Errey has been weight training for over six years and has become familiar with several training styles and their distinct benefits.
The physical benefits of weight training are already well-known, but there are also several mental benefits that are not often talked about. Regularly weight training has positive effects on several mental health problems. Moderately intense training sessions may help healthy adults lower their anxiety levels.
Depression is also affected by weight training; the latter is thought to reduce depression symptoms among adults who have been diagnosed and can be helpful to college students and healthy adults in managing difficult moments in their lives.
Improved mental health is not the only benefit of weight training. Memory, problem solving, and information processing all receive a boost from exercising. Weight training, specifically, has the biggest benefit on memory tasks. Further, both self-esteem and determination are improved.
The nature of weight training requires athletes to push themselves. Over time, this practice helps them develop a strong ability to focus and high level of determination. In terms of self-esteem, weight training involves working towards a specific measurement of progress. Repeatedly meeting these goals often increases self-esteem.
